Egypt ratified the CRPD in 2008. The National Council for Disability Affairs was established in 2012. In 2014, for the first time in Egypt, the Constitution included articles referring directly and indirectly to persons with disabilities as equal citizens with equal rights. This led  to a momentum on disability issues, including promoting inclusive employment. The UNPRPD project was launched against this backdrop, to promote skills training in the ICT sector following a baseline needs assessment study in several selected governorates; raising awareness among employers on inclusive employment, capacity-building for service providers on inclusive vocational training  and encouraging co-design of social innovation  for addressing barriers experienced by persons  with disabilities.
